“From the Chair ”

This year marks many accomplishments and presents many opportunities for us as the Cincinnati Regional Chapter.

Among this year’s accomplishments that we are all proud of include the decision by the Ohio School Facilities Commission to require LEED Silver Certification for all new schools in Ohio, and the passage of LEED Certification tax incentives by the City of Cincinnati. Our Chapter hosted more LEED training sessions this past year than ever before in our history, and our membership has doubled in that same time. Finally, of the 28 LEED Certified projects in Ohio, more than half lie within the Cincinnati Regional Chapter boundaries.  Clearly, our region and our state have stepped up as leaders in the green building movement and it is something we can all be very proud of.

With these accomplishments as our back-drop, the coming year also presents many opportunities for us as a Chapter.  It is time for our Chapter to reach out and engage even more with our membership and our communities and build on the success of this past year. We have the opportunity to work on both a state-wide level in helping a Columbus Chapter form, and also at a local level by focusing on local projects like the Banks, and Over-the-Rhine.  With broad membership, we can reach out to other organizations in our region as we all work together towards the same goals of making the Southwest Ohio region a healthy and sustainable place.

I sincerely hope that as a member of our local Chapter, whether you are brand new, or a long-time supporter, you will help us make this year a success and we will mark many more accomplishments as a group.  I am looking forward to working with our newly elected board of directors to continue developing quality educational sessions, and to make this organization a rewarding one for all of our members. My hope is that the benefit received from your membership and support of our Chapter, will encourage you to contribute to the leadership of our movement in the future.

Thank you for your support, and I am looking forward to a great 2008!

Sincerely,

Shawn Hesse  - Chair

USGBC Cincinnati Regional Chapter

WHO WE ARE...

The USGBC Cincinnati Regional Chapter is comprised of a diverse group of individuals covering all aspects of the building and construction industry.  Our vision is for the sustainable design and building operations approach to, one day, be the standard for all buildings in the Cincinnati Region.  We plan to accomplish this by achieving the following goals:

1)     Promote the practice of sustainable design and operation in the

         local building industry.

2)     Advance the technologies and processes that deliver the benefits of

         sustainable building practices.

3)     Serve as an educational resource on sustainable design and operation

for our members and this community.

4)     Provide a networking resource for all interested in sustainable design.

5)    Become a regional LEEDTM  Certification Resource.

Our Executive Board currently meets the first Tuesday of every month to develop and advance the chapter.  We also host public events and meetings covering a wide variety of topics related to sustainability. These can be found on our "Events" page.

For information about our chapter, please contact our Administrative Assistant, Amy Ostigny at aostigny@bizcinci.rr.com
