The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is the nation’s foremost coalition of leaders from every sector of the building industry working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Our more than 7,500 member organizations and our network of 75 regional chapters are united to advance our mission of transforming the building industry to sustainability.
Locally, the Chapter furthers the work of USGBC through our diverse membership of over 350 persons from across the building industry, offering a variety of educational programs, policy discussions, green building tours, and other events to promote green building within the region. Annually the Chapter offers more than 50 programs and events.
Core Purpose
The U.S. Green Building Council's core purpose is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life.
Position Description
USGBC—Chicago Chapter is looking for committed individuals to assist in an administrative capacity to maintain quality service to individuals interested in the Council, its programs, and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System.
Responsibilities
- Assist with data entry
- Administer USGBC phone and email inquiries
- Work with staff and volunteers to assist with member and sponsor mailings
- Assist with program registration
- Manage membership renewal process
- Assist with other administrative tasks as necessary
Qualifications
- Minimum age is 18 years old
- Willingness to learn new information
- Must be friendly, dependable, and flexible
- Must enjoy interacting with the public and communicate effectively with individuals
- Ability to work independently and solve problems or contact staff when appropriate
- Working knowledge of MS Office software, particularly MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Commitment
A regular commitment as a USGBC volunteer is essential to not only the needs of the board and staff, but also to the continuing excellence of the Chapter’s programs and membership. The commitment required for this position is:
- Position requires at least four hours per week
