Getting started in becoming a LEED Accredited Professional

LEED accreditation is now done through a third party arm of the USGBC called The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).  This is where you register to take the exam.  The site also has some exam preparation materials, which include a “LEED Accredited Professional Candidate Handbook”, sample questions and links to certain pages on the USGBC website containing information you will need to be familiar with for the test.  Here is the preparation page address:

-or- begin with the home page of the GBCI site by using the address below.

One of the best ways to learn quickly is to attend a LEED Technical Review Workshop conducted by the USGBC out of Washington DC.  These are one day events hosted in cities all over the US.  Cincinnati has none scheduled until April, but you will find workshops scheduled in other nearby cities.  This link will take you to the USGBC educational site…..

Use the search button on this page to find the scheduled workshops and their locations.

Unless you intend to take the LEED AP exam in a focused area (such as Existing Buildings EB or Commercial Interiors CI), we would suggest looking for the workshop for New Construction and Major Renovation (NC).

There are a few other sources out there which could be helpful places to find materials for study.

http://www.greenbuild365.org/coursecatalog.aspx USGBC's GreenBuild365 site includes listing of courses approved by the USGBC's Educational Provider Program.  Courses are available all over the US and some in on-line formats (local firm SHP has a course listed that is intended for LEED AP hopefuls).

Please let us know if you wish to join in a study group.  Depending on interest and availability, we could assemble a study group, and provide some tutoring.
