BikeDenver, the city of Denver’s non-profit bicycle advocacy organization, seeks an executive director.
Our Mission: To promote and encourage bicycling as an energy efficient, non-polluting, healthy, and enjoyable transportation alternative within the City and County of Denver.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree a big plus
- Excellent writing and inter-personal skills
- Must be a regular bike commuter, and live in (or move to) the city and county of Denver
- Website and email list management experience
- Familiarity with Denver city government
- Grant-writing experience
- Non-profit management experience
- Leadership and public speaking experience
Our ideal candidate would be an extremely compelling individual who is passionate about bicycles, and their potential to change the urban transit landscape into a sustainable system that promotes physical health, and human power. This position will involve extensive interaction with elected officials and employees at many levels of city government, as well as interaction with Denver area businesses, and business leaders.
Over the past several years, BikeDenver has advocated for a permanent downtown bike-station to be built, and within the coming year, we anticipate finalization of plans for the first station. Additionally, Denver will be one of the first U.S. cities to have a Paris-style bike sharing system, commencing in early 2009 with the aid of Humana and Bikes Belong. It is our goal to run both the bike stations, and the bike sharing system, with a high degree of crossover between the two. Our executive director will spearhead much of the work on these projects, including a major fundraising portion and collaboration with local businesses.
BikeDenver also runs bike corrals at large civic events throughout the year. The executive director will work with our bike parking manager to ensure future success for this program and use it as leverage to attain other cycling related goals.
Our executive director would work extensively with, and be supervised by the all-volunteer board of directors.
Interested candidates should send applications via email to bdmembers@comcast.net
