USGBC Colorado Celebrates Five Year AnniversaryFive years of dramatic growth and diversity in Colorado's green building communityBy Patti Mason, Program Coordinator, USGBC Colorado Chapter
On September 12, the Colorado Chapter marked five years of dramatic growth and diversity in Colorado’s green building community by bringing together close to 400 of its friends and members for an evening of celebration. Ed Mazria, founder and executive director of Architecture 2030,was the keynote speaker. Mazria addressedattendees about the 2030 Challenge, a program he developed to reduce emissions in the built environment.
A group of high school students from the Colorado Honors Band assembled a jazz quartet and played at the event’s private reception. The reception gave the Chapter staff and Board of Directors an opportunity to personally thank event sponsors for their generous contributions
Beautiful sculptures and paintings from Nine10Arts were displayed throughout the grand ballroom. Nine10Arts is Denver’s only green built creative community which offers artists and the surrounding community the unique opportunity to “See. Hear. Smell. Taste. Feel. Be Art!”™ while incorporating the principles of affordability, sustainability, community stewardship and support for the arts. The pieces selected were made entirely from recycled and reused materials.
While the Chapter gave thanks to all of its active members, four volunteers were highlighted individually for their extraordinary contributions:
