USGBC Flatwater Chapter selects a LEED for Homes Advocate

The USGBC Flatwater Chapter is pleased to announce the selection of Daniel Lawse as our chapter’s Residential Green Building Advocate.

Daniel J. Lawse, Energy Outreach Associate for the Neighborhood Center for Greater Omaha, is responsible for a two-year grant funded pilot program to inventory housing stock in two Omaha neighborhoods, develop a Neighborhood Energy Action Plan, see the plan through implementation, and follow-up on the effectiveness of the energy reducing action strategies.

As a nationally certified Home Energy Rater (HERS), he conducts home energy assessments for research, energy reduction, and improved indoor air quality. As part of a holistic approach to energy efficiency, the Neighborhood Energy Savings Program has partnered with the Douglas County Health Department to bring awareness to radon hazards and has partnered with the Omaha Healthy Kids’ Alliance to educate homeowners about lead hazards in homes.

Daniel has served as the Planning Director for Glenwood, Iowa where he worked closely with builders to meet Energy Star criteria and promote sustainable residential development.

Working towards a Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning, Daniel has studied sustainable development and energy planning at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, as well as attending various workshops and seminars on residential green building—both new and rehab.

Daniel role will include networking with Residential Green Building Providers and industry professionals to understand what is going on in their communities as well as becoming familiar with national and regional green home building trends and guidelines.  He will be a great resource for our chapter and our community.
