The Solid Waste Administration Building Renovations for the City of Tallahassee (COT) consists of the addition of a new second story to a structure not originally designed to support it, and total renovation to its first floor. More importantly, the building was renovated as a "green" building with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)TM Certification. The building's original roof structure consists of structural concrete tees pitched to the north for water flow which had to be "lifted" six inches to obtain a level surface for the new 2nd floor. A new elevator and a single staircase were added to the building for vertical circulation and accessibility.

A few of the green-certifiable features included in the project are:
  • Erosion and sedimentation techniques
  • Designated parking for alternative fuel vehicles / carpoolers
  • Minimal site disturbance / Minimal heat island effect
  • Water efficient landscaping / Water use reduction
  • Building commissioning / Optimal energy performance
  • Fluorocarbon elimination / Elimination of tobacco smoke
  • Systems controls for measurement and verification
  • Storage/collection of recyclables
  • De-construction / Resource-reuse
  • Use of regional materials with recycled content
  • Minimum indoor air quality (IAQ) standards
  • Low emitting materials / Enhanced use of daylight and views
