In December 2007, Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest, Kentucky’s Official Arboretum, received word from the United States Green Building Council that the sustainably conceived and constructed Visitor Center earned their nationally recognized top honor: Platinum LEED Green Building Rating Award*. The Visitor Center is the first building in the state of Kentucky and surrounding five-state region to receive this award.
Bernheim is celebrating this achievement with a public unveiling event at 10am on Saturday, May 10. Invited speakers include Governor Steve Beshear, Metro Mayor Jerry Abramson, Bullitt County Judge/Executive Melanie Roberts and USGBC KY Chapter President Jeff Moneypenny. Many of the partners involved in the creation of the building will take part in the ceremony.
Also on this day, Bernheim is holding dedications for two new Council Rings in memory of former Board President Joseph C. Oldham, an exhibition of the photography of Barry Bingham, Jr. and Joseph C. Oldham and Bernheim’s annual Spring Plant Sale.
