SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

USGBC Conferences & Events Team First in U.S. to Receive Certification for Sustainable Event

U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Conferences and Events team today announced certification under BS 8901:2007, the new British standard for planning and managing sustainable events. USGBC is the first organization in North America to receive certification for its Conferences and Events Team under BS 8901:2007, the world’s first certifiable sustainability management system standard for the events industry.

The third-party verification that is part of the certification process was done by Sustainable Event Certification and included on-site auditing at the Greenbuild 2008 in Boston, Mass. This year’s Greenbuild show will take place November 11-13, 2009 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Other Green Events

The U.S. Green Building Council - Nevada Chapter posts all chapter-related events on our Events page. On that page is a link (in the upper right corner) that leads to a list of Other Events that relate to green building and sustainability, but are not directly tied to the chapter.

The Other Events listing varies from month to month, so it's a good idea to check in occasionally.

DOWNLOAD FREE MOVIES!! - High Performance Building Perspective and Practice

Rocky Mountain Institute and the U.S. Green Building Council have partnered to produce a compelling film that documents the business case for building green. Thirteen LEED projects are profiled. This film features interviews with the CEOs, business executives, developers, school administrators, government officials, building managers, and design professionals who recognize the real benefits of going green.

Visit the RMI Built Environment Team website for more details and to view the film online. They have also made it available for download in several sizes and formats. Thanks RMI & USGBC for this excellent resource!

Position Statement on Energy in Nevada

The U.S. Green Building Council - Nevada Chapter knows that LEED-certified green buildings play a key role in addressing some of the most important issues of our time. The implementation of the 2030 Challenge, as a strategy to increase building efficiency and the use of renewable energy, will result in carbon neutral buildings by 2030, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Please download and read our Position Statement on Energy in Nevada (PDF) and share it with others. The references included in the statement provide valuable information and we encourage you to explore them in depth.

A member poll indicated overwhelming approval of the position statement.
