

Green Homes for Greensburg Competition
Starting Fresh in Greensburg, Kansas
On May 4, 2007 at approximately 9:45 pm CDT, Greensburg, Kansas was almost completely destroyed by an F5
tornado.
Lonnie McCollum, Mayor of Greensburg would like to re-build the town as a
pillar in the green building movement, an example for America. Kansas Gov.
Kathleen Sebelius supports this vision.
Design Competition Premise
This design competition provides an applied learning experience in the principles
of integrated design, sustainability, innovation, and social consciousness.
Using the USGBC’s LEED-H rating system as a benchmark, teams of 3 people
will design LEED-H green homes for residents in Greensburg, KS, including the
option of “Net-Zero” homes that produce as much energy as it consumes.
