Brian Solan PE, LEED AP is a registered Professional Engineer in Montana and a LEED Accredited Professional.  He specializes in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Design of HVAC systems, LEED Certification Consultation, Energy Modeling and Construction Management. His experience with Sustainable Design and LEED Certification comes from both a designer and owner’s perspective with the Morrison Maierle Bozeman office building (LEED Certified Gold).  Brian serves as on the Board of the Montana Chapter of the USGBC, sits on the West Regional Council of the USGBC and heads up the Advocacy Sub-Committee for the Montana Chapter. Additionally, Brian brings a practical approach to systems, facilities and sustainable building practices.

Whitney comes from a background of program development, management and marketing. She is in marketing and sales for North Slope Sustainable Wood, a company that utilizes small diameter trees harvested from forest restoration sites in western Montana and northern Idaho to create unique, beautiful, high-value wood products for buildings. Whitney advocates for regionally-sensitive sustainable design to help serve the triple-bottom line here in Montana—economics, environment and social equity.  Her interest is in connecting folks to a more local, healthy and harmonious community at home and at large. Whitney maintains this focus in her career path and in her personal life. Whitney serves on the MT USGBC Chapter Board as Treasurer.

Heather is the Sustainability Programs Manager for the Yellowstone Business Partnership, a tri-state organization working to resolve cross-boundary challenges facing communities in the Yellowstone-Teton region.  Heather manages YBP’s UnCommon Sense program, a two-year leadership program in sustainable business operations. She also manages the Greater Yellowstone Framework for Sustainable Development, an ecosystem rating system modeled after LEED but going beyond the built environment to give credits for regionally relevant factors such as biodiversity, land use, cultural and historical values, recreation resources, and community vitality.  Heather is a lifelong Montana resident, and graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and minors in Environmental Studies, Wilderness Studies, and German. She spent a semester in California studying solar home design and a semester in Vienna, Austria, studying German.  She received her Master of Science degree from the University of Montana in 2003, in Environmental Studies, Alternative Energy and Sustainable Building.  Heather is a licensed private pilot and a licensed Real Estate Agent in Montana and Wyoming, practicing conservation real estate.  She serves on the board of directors as secretary for the MT Chapter of the USGBC and is on the board of directors for the Beartooth Alliance.  Heather is also a LEED Accredited Professional.

Casey is the Residential Programs Manager for Kath Williams + Associates; a small firm based in Bozeman Montana specializing in LEED consulting. Casey is a qualified LEED for Homes Verifier and delivers LEED for Homes verification services in Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota. Recently resigning from the Vice Chair position, Casey servers on the Board as the Residential Green Building Committee chairperson.

Philip started the engineering firm Redleaf Consulting, PLLC in 2004.  Since starting Redleaf Consulting, PLLC, Philip has done work in CO, WY, AZ, and MT.  He is an active member of the Montana professional community and serves on the Board for the Montana Chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies(ACEC).  In addition, Philip is a believer in environmentally sustainable design, he is a LEED Accredited Professional and a founding board member for the Montana Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).  His goal is to build his career on a reputation of honesty, personal service, sustainability and quality.

Kelly A. Karmel is a sustainable design specialist and LEED consultant.  She holds degrees in architecture from the University of Colorado and civil engineering from Stanford University.  She founded Design Balance LLC in 1996 after 16 years of design experience to help clients and design teams improve the environmental performance of new and existing buildings.  Kelly has been a LEED Accredited Professional since 2000.  She and her firm have a national practice involved with a wide variety of building types including commercial office, K-12 and higher education, sports, recreation, governmental and institutional projects.

Wendy is very excited to serve on the Montana Chapter of USGBC Board of Directors because she feels very strongly about the sustainable movement and how it will develop in Montana.  Wendy believes that the Chapter is critical to effect change in our amazing state and believe that by serving on the Board she can become actively involved in this change.  Wendy would like to see cities, towns, and counties adopt green building policy into their code and believe that the Montana Chapter can help this develop.  Wendy is a civil engineer for Sanderson Stewart and a LEED Accredited Professional.  She is also a member of the Bozeman Sunrise Rotary and has been working with the Bozeman Sustainability Group to develop a Sustainability Program in the Gallatin Valley.

Nash has a passion for everything green.  He is currently working towards gaining his professional architecture license at High Plains Architects, the firm who designed the first LEED Platinum building in Montana.  He just gained LEED AP status and will continue to advocate and research the latest in green building.  Also getting involved in the local community, Nash is President of BikeNet, a Billings-based trail advocacy non-profit organization, has helped to take over the reigns of Green Drinks Billings, and is now vice-chair of the Yellowstone Valley Citizens Council. Nash is also the current USGBC MT Chapter website maintenance man, so please let him know if you have any troubles or recommentations on our website.
