Guest Speaker: Carrie Stevenson
Topic:  Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program for Builders & Developers.
Overview: Florida is building more new homes than any other state, placing increased demands on our natural resources. Florida Yards & Neighborhoods provides continuing education workshops for builders, developers and industry professionals, along with resources such as sample Deed Restrictions, a water efficient landscape ordinance, and Florida-Friendly Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CCRs).  The FYN program can provide homeowner education and certification and recognition to Florida-friendly builders, including an annual statewide award presented at the yearly Green Trends Conference.  FYN certification for developers falls into the same category as the water-saving practices required by LEED certification.  The goal is to prevent excess water pollution and encourage conservation practices in building and landscaping.  FYN certification for builders/developers is also a good first step for first-time green builders and professionals interested in LEED certification, as it requires similar measures but costs nothing and requirements are less stringent.    While it includes requirements for building materials, the program focuses on landscaping and can be done at any existing facility.
