Missouri Green Building Legislation Update
|
|
We are excited about all the green building specific legislation that's been filed this year! Check out the summaries below.
Senate Bill 430
(Sponsored by Sen. Jeff Smith) Creates and modifies provisions pertaining to environmentally
sustainable practices.
- Energy-Efficient
Appliances: any appliance purchased with any portion of state funding shall be
an Energy Star appliance.
- State
Buildings: any state building built, substantially renovate or acquired for
lease must be certified by the USGBC under LEED Silver
- Codes: gives counties of the third classification the
same authority to adopt a building code as current law provides to counties of
the first and second classifications.
- Income Tax Deductions: on the purchase of qualified hybrid motor
vehicles.
- Green Schools Grant: $500,000
a year aggregate in grants to public school districts for obtaining LEED
certification on new or substantial renovation projects.
Senate Bill 431 (Sponsored by Sen. Jeff Smith): Creates a tax credit
for the construction or renovation of buildings using environmentally
sustainable techniques. Tax credit consists of three components: green whole
building component; green base building component; and the green tenant and
space component.
Senate Bill 543 (Sponsored by Sen. David Pearce): Creates a tax credit for homes built under green build
standards. Tax credit based on rating system of NAHB and LEED-H
Green building, energy efficiency and renewable energy are hot topics among our Missouri lawmakers this year. Check out Missouri Votes Conservation's website for a broader (and much longer!) list of legislation.
