Douglas Farr live on FM-88 KDHX this Tuesday, January 15

Earthworms host Jean Ponzi will explore Sustainable Urbanism with Douglas Farr, a Chicago-based architect and leading national force for integrating building performance with community-sized greening. Farr chaired the LEED ND (Neighborhood Development). His new book "Sustainable Urbanism - Urban Design with Nature" (2007 John Wiley & Sons) presents essays, case studies, data and illustrations of the movement that is changing buildings, cities and lives,

Earthworms is an environmental talk show on FM-88 KDHX that airs every Tuesday from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. Doug Farr will be interviewed from 7:30-8 p.m.

Crown Square Public Spaces Charrette - Saturday, January 19

Crown Villiage Associates (a partnership between Old North St. Louis Restoration Group and Regional Housing and Community Development Alliance) recently broke ground on $35 million historic rehab of the mostly vacant 14th Street Mall with a vision to tranform it into a mixed-use and mixed-income development that will help stabilize and invigorate the central part of the Old North St. Louis neighborhood.

Crown Villiage Associates is seeking community input regarding the development's public spaces. What will make this a dynamic, valuable space for the neighborhood and the entire city? The charrette will focus on the physical space; events and programming and neighborhood connections. Neighborhood stakeholders, designers, planners and other professionals are welcome to participate, but RSVPs ARE REQUIRED!

St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste District offers $2 million in grants

The St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District will award approximately $2 million in grant funds to assist local governments, businesses, and not-for-profit organizations in establishing and expanding waste reduction and recycling programs. The District encourages cooperative efforts between potential applicants. The average amount awarded in previous funding cycles has been $40,000. The District requires a minimum 10 percent match. Eligible costs include equipment, salaries, and direct costs associated with a project.

Grant applications are currently available online at www.swmd.net and must be submitted by Friday, January 18, 2008. For more information, contact the District office at (314) 645-6753.

The Energy Component in Green Buildings - Friday, February 1

Laclede Gas Company is sponsoring this FREE half-day Energy Action Workshop to discuss how to improve energy efficiency and operations in commercial and industrial building applications. Information will be provided on energy management programs and energy conservation recommendations for existing buildings. Lunch will be provided. Speakers include:

New Research Report - "Green Building Incentives that Work"

Yudelson Associates has recently completed the research study - “Green Building Incentives That Work: A Look at How Local Governments Are Incentivizing Green Development.” Reesearch found that nearly a hundred local and state governments are offering green building incentives to private developers. The study was prepared for the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP) Research Foundation and can be found online here:
